Weave Drills

In order for a boxer to go from simply learning a technique, such as the weave,  to using it instinctively, the boxer must practice the technique over and over in various ways.  One such way is with a rope.  Or in my case, handwraps.

In order for a boxer to go from simply learning a technique, such as the weave,  to using it instinctively, the boxer must practice the technique over and over in various ways.  One such way is with a rope.  Or in my case, handwraps.

I connected my handwraps together using the velcro on it.  I then attached  one end to a wall, the other end to another wall.  You can attach them to anything that is sturdy.

I will be discussing three ways to use this drill.  The first will be with the basic boxer's shuffle also known as the boxer's bounce or rhythm.  The next will be with a basic punch combination.  The last drill will include a punch to the body.

Drill 1:

Start at one end of the rope, while doing the boxer's bounce (remember, there is no up & down movement, just back and forth on the balls of your feet) and weave under it, taking a side step as you do.  Once you get to the other side of the rope, continue the bounce for a few beats, then repeat.  Work your way up the rope.  Once you get to the end, turn around and repeat.

Drill 2:

Start at one end of the rope then weave under it, taking a side step as you do.  Once you get to the other side, throw a combination, maybe the cross-hook-cross or hook-cross-hook.  Do this as you work your way to the end of the rope.  Once there, turn around and repeat.

Drill 3:

Start at one end of the rope then weave under it while throwing a hook to the body, taking a side step as you do.  Once you get to the other side, throw a combination, maybe the cross-hook-cross or hook-cross-hook.  Do this as you work your way to the end of the rope.  Once there, turn around and repeat.
